infrared landscape cemetery

Infrared. The unseen light.

My journey into infrared photography began with my interest in photographing the angels and sculptures of cemeteries. In researching cemeteries to explore, I discovered a treasure trove of infrared images of cemetery landscapes, and I was hooked. The images here are all shot with a 720nm converted Nikon D90. This camera often accompanies me in my travels, providing vivid whites and deep blacks. In addition to black and white processing, the 720nm filter allows for blue skies as the perfect contrast to brilliant white foliage. In time, I plan to add a full spectrum converted camera to my bag.

"All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s (or thing’s) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt"

-Susan Sontag
